The 21st century is seeing intensive research being performed to explore the possibilities of using nano-medicine to fight, or even prevent, Alzheimer’s disease.
Research indicates that there is a danger of nanoparticles breaching the blood brain barrier as they start to become prevalent in the future. Researchers from Europe are attempting to turn this danger into a an actual treatment, and are investigating the potential of deliberately directing nano-particles into the brain.
The hope is that this nano-technology could be engineered to deliver molecules capable of identifying and destroying the Amyloid deposits in the brain that are characteristic of Alzheimers diseases.
While it is very much early days in this research, if nano alzheimer’s treatment can be successfully developed it will be a boon to millions of seniors world wide.
